SAFETY
Safety is our primary concern. All of our members are encouraged to always ride within their limits. The UtahSBA does not promote or encourage pushing the limits of the motorcycle, the limits of the road (or course) or, most importantly, the rider's limits. Crashing is expensive, destructive to the perception of our sport and can result in serious injury or death.
Above all else, the UtahSBA promotes non-competitive riding experiences. Our "fun rides" or "group rides" are designed to allow sport riders to get together and enjoy riding Utah 's spectacular canyon roads without feelings of needing to keep up, compete with fellow riders or to be "fast". Every UtahSBA member needs to ride their own speed, regardless of how fast or slow that is, without the fear of berating.
There is not a mandatory helmet law (for riders under 18 years old) in the state of Utah. ( 41-6a-1505 ), but the UtahSBA requires all members to always wear all appropriate riding gear, which includes a full-face helmet, motorcycle specific jacket, long-pants, motorcycle specific full-finger gloves and over-the-ankle footwear as a bare minimum. (Minimum required riding gear for track activities is higher). If you do not wear all your appropriate gear, riders can expect to receive constant ribbing and teasing until the level of riding gear improves. Besides, wearing full riding gear looks cool! Everyone looks better with a full-face helmet and tinted face-shield.
In addition, the UtahSBA subscribes to " the squadron " method for group rides and because Nick Ienatsch is one of our founding members, we believe that all street rides need to conform to The Pace in every regard. There is no room for stunting, competition or racing on public roads, period.
There is also no room in the UtahSBA for riders who have something to prove on public roads. If you want to race, take it to the track. The UtahSBA has many opportunities for members to get involved with racing.
