Our last Supermoto race of 2011 is coming up quickly (Sept 18th) which means that our 2012 season is just around the corner, but before I talk about next year, I'd like to compare this year to last year.

Compared to last year, we've had a positive increase in racer entries. Here's the data:
2011 race 1: 100% increase compared to 2010 race 1
2011 race 2: 20% increase compared to 2010 race 2
2011 race 3: 27% decrease compared to 2010 race 3.
2011 race 4: To be determined.

Race 3 this year had some stiff competition that "stole" some Supermoto racers away because Yamaha had a promotion on the big track where you could ride for free on a Yamaha no older than 2 years, or for $75 if the Yamaha was older than 2 years.

In spite of the decline in race 3 entries, year to date we are up 18% compared to last year.

What I'm leading up to is that Supermoto is not dead in Utah and is in fact on the rebound and growing. I know that Miller keeps an eye on Supermoto which might explain why they never took away the west dirt section, or why they agreed to have Supermoto specific practice from 5 PM to dusk the evening before each race this year.

The bottom line: A strong turn-out at our Sept. 18th race will increase our positive momentum heading into next year. Positive momentum = possibilities for improvements.

What can you do? The most important thing is for you to show up and race. If you can make Saturday evening’s practice session, so much the better. If you’re not racing two classes and you trust a friend to ride your motorcycle, get him to race the class you’re not racing. Your friend can't race on a Sunday? Get him to come out and ride Saturday evening's practice!

Do what you can, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, to continue the positive momentum!

I'm putting my 450 together tonight and either I or my nephew will be riding it this weekend. I'm hoping to borrow some wheels for his 250, so we can both ride--that would be sweet. Plus, my girlfriend is doing the ART--does that mean we get some kind of family discount... Sheesh.

Anyway, see you guys out there.

Cheers,
-jerry
