Rocky Mountain Raceways Drag Racing
USBA RMR Drag Night
Mark Pittman at Rocky Mountain Raceways has provided us with the following time line and tech requirements for the USBA Drag Racing Events. We are participating in the RMR Street Legal racing events. The USBA has been given our own class to compete in so we do not interfere with the Championship points.
Gates Open [racer] = 3:00 pm
Tech Opens = 4:00 pm
Gates Open [spectator] = 4:00 pm
Time Trials / Qualifying = 4:30 pm
Tech Closes = 6:30 pm
Staging Closes = 6:30 pm
Eliminations / Racing = 7:00 pm
Please note that spectator gate fees are $10 per person, $5 for children ages 5-12, children under 5 are free with paying adult.
All spectators and racers must check in at the ticket window. RMR will be given a list of racers that have registered on our Event Registration page. http://www.utahsba.com/shop/
The USBA class will be managed by Mark Pittman personally. USBA racers should show up about 4:00 pm and we’ll have a quick rider’s meeting at 4:15 pm and then qualifying starts at 4:30 pm (although bikes are rarely the first class to start qualifying). Racing starts at 7:00 pm and should be over by 10:00 pm at the latest.
Each racing class gets two hits at the track for qualifying. The USBA will be put on an eliminations ladder based off of reaction time (Mark will run the eliminations ladder to make it easier on everyone).
Tech Requirements
(summary: street bikes are fine, but proper street gear is required)
If your bike and gear will pass a MMP road racing tech, it will pass here.
The 135 mph speed limit for bikes will be in effect at this event because it is a Street Legal night. Full leathers will be required for 120 mph or faster (basically a road racing set of gear would be perfect). For bikes slower than 120 mph, a leather jacket, leather boots above the ankle, and leather gloves are mandatory. All riders will need to stay at the 10.00 seconds or slower ET for the night.
Safety wired bikes are awesome but safety wire is NOT required here.
Ignition shutoff attached with lanyard is normally required for 10.99 seconds or quicker but will NOT be enforced for your group for this event. A standard thumb controlled, handlebar-mounted ignition shutoff is fine.
If you run a Street Legal bike, you do NOT have to tape or remove up mirrors, turn signals, license plates, etc.
Anti-Freeze/Coolant = We prefer WaterWetter or straight water but if you bike has coolant in it for this event, that’s OK.
Racing Numbers = If you have a road racing number already mounted to your bike, that’s the number we will use for the event. If you don’t have a number, Mark will assign you one at the USBA club meeting. Either the nose/windscreen of the bike or the right side of the tail section of the bike will need to have the number displayed. Standard motocross or road racing numbers will work fine. Of course, you can use the shoe polish gig for numbers if you’re bike doesn’t already have numbers.
Helmets = Snell 2000 or newer full-face helmet with shield.
Tires = Slicks are awesome and recommended but if you have street tires on your street bike, that’s OK.
Throttle = Must snap back to off position once released.
Chain Guards = They are normally required for our Street Legal and ET classes but just for the USBA, Mark will let it slide.
